Have you ever wanted to explore Detroit but weren’t sure where to start?
Join the Adrian Diversity Event Fund for Lenawee Does Detroit, an exciting, guided cultural experience that brings history, art, and community to life. This unique series will take you inside the Detroit Institute of Arts, Eastern Market, and the Detroit Historical Society, with expert-led learning before you ever step on the bus.
Participants will attend three engaging evening sessions at the Adrian District Library, followed by a full-day motorcoach trip to Detroit on October 3.

October 3, Community Trip to Detroit
All sessions are held from 6 to 8 pm in the Community Room at the Adrian District Library, 143 East Maumee Street.

Detroit Institute of Arts
Learn about the Detroit Institute of Arts, where LGBTQ+, women, Hispanic and Latinx, Black, Indigenous, and global artists stand alongside renowned masters like Van Gogh, sharing powerful stories through world class collections that reflect creativity, resilience, identity, and cultural influence across generations.
September 23, 6 – 8 PM
DIA Diego Rivera Courtyard and Eastern Market
Study the Detroit Institute of Arts Diego Rivera Courtyard, where Rivera’s murals highlight industry, labor, innovation, and symbolism tied to Detroit’s history. We will then explore Eastern Market, where food systems, local entrepreneurship, and diverse cultural traditions shape one of the nation’s most vibrant public markets.

Detroit Historical Society
Learn about the Detroit Historical Society, where exhibits and collections explore the city’s evolution through industry, innovation, and social change, highlighting diverse communities, pivotal events, and the people whose stories shaped Detroit’s past and continue to influence its future.
October 3 Field Trip: Lenawee Does Detroit - 8:00am - 6:00pm
Field Trip: Lenawee Does Detroit
We will travel as a group to attend afield trip to Detroit to see the museums and cultural centers that we have learned about in class. (Lunch will take place at Eastern Market, but is not included in the price of the trip) The trip will take place from 8:00am - 6:00pm. We will depart from the Adrian Farmer's Market (115 Toledo St, Adrian).
